PROCESSING
PROCESSING — Highs, lows, gossip and revelations
Making unusual work in unusual places produces its own kind of knowledge. It also produces excellent stories.
Strange Engine Presents:
Story Telling
We began Processing with APHIDS because we wanted to share the funny, personal and occasionally incriminating tales that gather around making art. The wrong turns, unlikely allies, practical disasters, awkward encounters and small miracles that rarely survive the official version.
Together, we ran a series of storytelling workshops where artists revisited moments that still puzzled, delighted or haunted them. Those conversations became the starting point for fourteen new pieces of writing.
Our driver, Jason Maling, and his longtime Field Theory collaborator Lara Thoms are now co-editing the collection. We are helping each story find its form while keeping its dirt, cracks and peculiar logic intact.
Part mass memoir, part backstage pass, Processing is a lively account of what making art asks of people. It holds the gossip, failures, laughter and stories that emerge after everyone has packed up and gone home.
